Yup. No problems so far (a little over 2 years).

Default question: do they still use x-band in any Western states (esp. California)?

If not, I'll definetly disable it. I didn't realize that it was possible.

Default Yes - in SW Washington it is often still used by county Sheriff's depts.

It is gradually being replaced by more modern technology, but is still in use by at least 1/3 of the squad cars.

Default I agree with you that there is an art to reading the V1 or any radar detector....

People that don't drive with one, don't understand how it works I guess. You need to interpret what it's telling you and make a decision on friend or foe. That's why my 8500 is sitting in a drawer in the house. The more information you are presented with the easier it is to make a decision.

I still see X-Band in use here and there, so I won't disable it. I keep mine in Full Logic mode 99.9% of the time unless I'm in the middle of nowhere, then it does into All Boogies.

Default Yeah, me too pretty much.

I mostly did it for my friend. But there are stretches of I-95 that I frequent that have so much x-band noise that the thing even in L mode is alarming X-band above mute level more often than not. It's bad enough I can't pick out K threats through the noise.

I'll prob. keep X on most of the time, but turn it off on that stretch of road (SE CT).
