It was my understanding the 1-4 solenoid could be disabled fairly easily on the Vette, no? I wouldn't mind the hassle of disabling it if it meant $1700 in my picket...
As for relatively short 6th gear on S4 - I like that I don't have to downshift to pass on the interstate, but do I look for the 7th gear at times... And I doubt I'd EVER get to experience the top speed in 6th.
