DBW issue changing to 2nd gear
Does anyone else have an issue with changing into 2nd gear on reasonably hard launches? Most of the time I get it right, especially if I simply floor it for between gear changes and change up at 7K. But if I try it at say 70-90% of full throttle and only rev to 5-6K sometimes it feels like the engine cuts out when I try and change to 2nd gear. The whole car lurches and it makes me look like an idiot, esp. since I always driven manual cars for the last 23 years. Is this the DBW fighting me?

I have had that happen MANY times.
it really pisses me off. my b5 never did anything like that. you can avoid it if you shift earlier. it seems to happen if you push it a little hard, but in some cases I have had it happen at about 6700-6800 rpm. very annoying when your car pratically stops and you are at about 2k rpm and you have to start accelerating all over agian.

Here's what I do...
When I release the clutch coming out of 1st, I keep my foot on the throttle and just ease off about 1/2", then shift. At launch, I press the throttle about 50 - 60%. Redline in 1st happens so fast that going any farther is not necessary.
The result is that the revs drop only slightly before 2nd engages. You have to be careful to ease up a little though or you will over-rev when you disengage the clutch coming out of 1st.

I don't believe it's just the clutch
If that were true there would be some middle ground between "perfect" and "engine cuts out" when I get it almost right. But there isn't, when it does it it's REALLY obvious.
Of course that doesn't mean there isn't some technique that would allow me to avoid this situation. If that's true I'd love to know what it is. Maybe some people have hit upon it by accident.
