is it just a simple battery replacement?

yes it is a simple battery replacement...about $6 for battery. separate removable section with small screw driver blade or coin. shouldn't have any coding problem.

Default opened the key fob, but for some reason

it looks like 1 whole piece inside. which one (and where) is the battery

Default it's covered in the owners manual IIRC...

the top half section should separate and the battery should be in there on the side with the buttons(lock, unlock, etc).

Default did check the manual, but it only says to put battery in correctly...

you got it apart correctly, right? Find the battery w/o disturbing the little PC board. It's gonna be a little disc shaped battery.

Default that's what I thought. looking for a "wrist watch" type battery

but there's nothing. also checked my spare (master) key and nothing

Default dave, got it!! manual wasn't too clear (that's my story and i'm sticking to it, lol)

you have to lift the cover of the other half to get to it...
