Brought the car in to have them listen to the chain tensioner noise on startup since it has been getting progressively worse. At this point, it makes the sound almost every time I start it, even when the engine is warm. They told me that they heard it and were trying to figure out what caused it so they could fix it. Great start....
They called me the next day and told me that it was related to the cam chain tensioner, and once they figured out which side, they would pull the motor and fix it. Great. I was a little concerned about removing the motor, but if they fix the problem, then I guess I'm ok with it.
They called me the following day and told me they had great news. They said that they found a TSB that says this is normal and they don't need to do anything! Great for them, but not for me. I purposely didn't say anything about the TSB (I knew about that before I brought it there) hoping they would miraculously fix it, but it didn't work out that way.
So, I return empty-handed, again. I'm going to try some heavier weight oils to see if that helps. I wonder if the gradual worsening of the sound is related to viscosity breakdown?
Anyway, that's the story.
