Dealer: No ignition = knock sensor. (Not fuel pump, not coilpacks.) Really?

As you might recall from my previous post, the S4 coughed and refused to start Sunday night. Flatbedded it to the dealer, and as Murphy's Law would predict, they got the car started today.
Still, car throws a code for the knock sensor, so between that and the tow they believe that I really couldn't start the thing.
Anyway, the new knock sensor is on order for tomorrow, and they claim they've never seen a knock sensor replaced before, and not sure whether the problem will persist. They specifically ruled out the CPs and fuel pump.
Does this track with everyone's logic? I searched and didn't see a lot of known issues with knock sensors...
