Default difference between a 235/35 19 tire and 235/40 18 with H&R Coilover

Does anyone have any experience in the difference in ride characteristics when going from an 18" wheel to a 19" wheel and a lower profile tire . I am planning to upgrade my suspension to H&R coilover setup (already added H&R anti-sway bar) and uncertain about whether or not alter wheel size. I prefer look of 19, but I am concerned that ride will be too hard with only modest improvement in handling. I plan to buy Velocity RS4 repro designed for S4. They recommended 235/35 19 to avoid any clearance issues.

Default Stay with 18's.....

You will kill your ride with a stiffer suspension and 235/35's. Also, remember that with a stiffer suspension, your wheels will take more of a beating and may get damaged with so little rubber between them and the road. As far as performance goes, there is absolutely nothing to be gained by going to a 19" wheel over an 18". In fact, the wheel may be heavier. Going to 19's on this car is really just for appearance, and if you do that, you almost have to lower the car to reduce the fender gap or else the the thin sidewall will make the gap look even bigger than it already is.

Default Re: Stay with 18's.....

Thanks for the input. The car will be lower 1" just from the switch to coilovers. I don't plan to lower it any more than that. My gut was that the skinny tire on 19" wheel would result in very harsh ride. And I am in the NY area where the roads are really beat up.

Have you had a set up like the one described?
