I'm having a tough time deciding and my dealer is urging me to sign up soon, or face getting shut out. The cars look almost the same and I could save a ton of money on lost trade-in value among other things.
Does anyone have negative opinions about supercharging the 4.2?

If your answer is yes, then B7RS4 with NA engine is worthwhile for your daily drive.
If not, it's nothing except ornaments here and there.
If you have more than enough money, you may pay much for mere ornaments.
edited with the following:
RS4 FSI has the peak torque 430Nm@5500rpm and about 400Nm@2500-4000rpm
vs
S4 has the peak torque 410Nm@3500rpm
You may feel your S4 more powerful in daily driving.

RS4 is beyond $$$$ issues really. Put it alongside a b7S4 and you"ll see.

given what we saw on the first year or so of the 4.2 V8 S4 engine its safe to say that was supposed to be the oposite, however it turned out to be more in the "unproven longevity" column than anyone would have liked.
