dino oil good for 10k?
i just realized that my dealer is using nonsynthetic oil. i am not trying to start a dino v. synthetic argument.. just asking if others are using dino, and whether you think it is okay for 10k intervals. Thanks.

Dino oil should be outlawed on these cars. Tell those idiots to use the approved synthetic...
If they don't agree, pay for the difference in oils to your dealer and call AOA and tell them of your problem with that dealer.

If it's your car and you plan to keep it awhile and you "drive" it, do synthetic...no question...
BTW, Audi only recommends synthetic oil in ALL their 05+ models, if that tells you anything.

Audi said the same thing about synthetic oil after the fiasco in the oil sludge issue on the 1.8Ts..
They said only 2004+ model would get the synthetic but under pressure from customers they changed their minds.

Above all it should conform to VW 502 spec. That will encompass other important criteria such as..
ACEA A3/B3/B4 MB 229.1/229.3 BMW-LL, etc. These manufacturers approvals are basically crossover specs from the ACEA ratings. Use only 5W-40 and 0W-40. There are a few 5W and 0W-30 oils that meet these specs, too. A few great oils to use are, in no particular order: Motul E-tech 0W-40 and X-cess 5W-40, Pentosin 5W-40, Mobil1 0W-40 (although I don't like that one, it shears) German Castrol 0W-30 (red label says "made in germany", not the "made in USA" one), Elf excellium LDX 5W-40 and there is a list of Audi approved oils that I've included. Some VW 502 approved oils and oils that are ACEA A3/B3 aren't on "the list", though.

Approved oil list
