I am leaning toward a DIY install of my Tein coilovers and Hotchkis sways. While I am a complete noob, I have a friend who will lead the way who has done his own work on his race cars for years (modified M3's and Spec Miata).
The question is - are there any idiosyncracies about our cars that require special tools or Audi-specific experience?

There are two ways for the back you can use a spring compressor, or drop the sub frame, The rears are a biach, or at least mine where just to get out. Everything else is easy.

When you're lowering the car, the front suspension in particular, you need to reset the neutral position of the upper and lower control arms.
The bushings will be torqued unusually if this is not done, and can cause them to wear prematurely.
Lots of information about this in the archives, especially under the control arm replacement threads.
