Do I have the dreaded valvetrain problem?
I have been out of town on contracts and have not been able to drive the car for a couple of months. I got back in town yesterday and decided to take it out for a spin today. When I started it up, I heard a loud tapping noise from the passenger bank at the rear. It took about 5 minutes to disappear. The tapping sound followed the engine RPM on revs. I let it idle and it eventually quieted down but since I was so paranoid I did not drive it although I did let it fully warm up. Oil level was fine. I have the Platinum extended warranty on it. The car only has 15,000 miles on it.
What do you all think?

May be. I would start it again and see if it is quiet. If so, it may have been a fluke situation from sitting for an extended period of time and when you first fired it up it took a while for oil to make it's way through the motor. Many engines with hydraulic lifters have some extra tapping when started after storage.
I'll cross my fingers for you. ;-)

Fired it up again...
this morning and all sounded normal. I don't drive the car except on weekends since it's not secure where I park at the airport. I will have to wait and see how it goes next weekend on the start. The clacking was definitely coming from the rear main area on the passenger side bank.

Hopefully it was just a one time occurence and it's not the dreaded cam adjuster!
Worse case scenario is you will get your money's worth out of the extended warranty.
Good luck!

If the noise was from right rear passenger area, it could be the fuel pump.
I had similar noise at cold start for a period of time, but on and off, and it did not happened when I took my car to dealer for check up, so it was really frustrating. Finally, a few months later, one day the noise stayed on even after warmed up, and when I arrived at the dealer, the technician there could hear that it was from the fuel pump, and replaced it under warranty.

It's probably the lifters. When they sit for a long time, especially with high viscosity oil, they will bleed out. Once the engine starts, it takes a while for the lifters to see enough oil pressure to load back up.
I had a BMW that would do the same thing.
