Don't worry about any comparisons of the B6 S4 to the C6 A6 4.2. The new A6 4.2 is a SUPER PORKER.

The new A6 is significantly heavier (~250lbs) and the 4.2L engine is a bit detuned compared to the S4. Plus (as far as I know) no manual transmission offered.

Cars are getting bigger, safer, and more powerful. The only way for the weight not to go up correspondingly would be for the mfg's to use composites and lightweight metals--then everybody would start complaining about six-figure price tags.
