Dual mass to single mass flywheel
#11
Not yet for the S4, but sure they can definitely be done...
right now there are two companies willing to make a LWFW for us but they are both SM and I believe they are going to do aluminum. Steel can be done but Dahlback did that in the past for our 1.8t brothers and it wasnt any better. My hope would be for a redesigned and lightly lightened dual mass unit.

Looking at those posts and all the testing that Captain and Avram did...
you can see that this subject could be and has been hotly debated. I'm not an Audi engineer but I do know that some efforts to reduce the effect of DBW were successful without touching the FW.... return to throttle effect particularly. It likely is a result of more than one component.

No doubt, but we're talking a couple different issues...
Throttle inputs and sensitivity can definitely be controlled via computer and there are several ways you can adjust this such as sending out false signals to the DBW throttle controller but overall revs when on the clutch does not have the throttle engaged and in this case is mechanical from all the energy stored in the DMFW. SO I do agree that both issues can be addressed but in different ways. But for rev mathching and returning to idle off throttle with the clutch depressed a LWFW will help this at the expense of a lot of poor driveability. Items that fool the DBW throttle conroller will definitely help sensitivity, but come with their own drawbacks which is poor modulation or the "off/on" feeling that has most people removing the devices after a few months with them on.
