Default Electrical problems

I have an 05 S4 tip. 13k miles, no problems until...

Last week, the outside and inside lights started flickering. So I took it to McDonald Audi in Denver.

They can't seem to figure out what is wrong. The tried replacing the "Control Module" and some other electrical thingy. No luck. I get the feeling they're just throwing parts at the problem and do not know what the problem is.

Anyone have similar electrical problems? If so, would you mind calling McDonald and tell them how to fix my car? winks:

I continue to be disappointed with Audi service, this is my second new Audi. For example the loaner they gave me isn't worth the taxes I paid on my S4. They give me a car with no snow tires even though I live in the high country. A customer has a 52k car, and they send them out with a lousy loaner. Some customer appreciation that is.

The price one pays for a car has zero to do with reliability or service.

Default Well First off....

Take a deep breath. Many dealers dont even provide loaner cars. Also electrical issues are often tricky to track down. Unfortunatly throwing parts at the problem is often the best course of action since it could be almost any electrical connection. Without seeing a VAG/VAS output on the car to see if any of the central electronics are throwing codes its kinda hard to even guess whats going on.

Thanks for that.

It really is a great car. Really fast, handles great. Great car. I get compliments on it all the time.

My tt was pretty reliable. I burned out a clutch, that was it.

Default It happens nothings perfect...

The nice part is your tech at the dealership is probably feeling the same way you are, since he relys on AoA and Audi GmBH for help and I bet they are not helping at all in the issue. Most of the time audi will say "It will go away" at least they are trying something. Put a littl pressure on your SA. Also after the car is in for more then 2 weeks trying to fix it call audi and open a case and document everything. Will give you more leverage and hopefully get your problem fixed faster.

The dealer just called. They say they "think" the transmission control module is bad.

The dealer has to order the part from Germany. Looks like it'll be next week at the soonest.

Sucks to be me.

If it "sucks to be you" just because your car has a problem, then yes, it would suck to be you.

Hey CaptainSheetmetal,

Everytime I come to this forum, I run into losers like you, who have nothing better to do than waste time.

You're a ******.

Update:

Now they say the transmission control module might be bad because "...we can't get any communication back from the transmission".

They're ordering the part from Germany. Maybe, I get my car back next week, but I doubt it. Probably not for 2 weeks.

My SA has done a nice job. I was down on McDonald but it's not their fault. Apparently, Audi makes dealers follow exact steps when diagnosing problems or they won't pay for the repair.

Default Yup they scan report codes etc....

and the Hotline tells them what they are alowed to do. Seems weird that they think its the TCM. My guess is something in the wireing harness is fubared if they are getting random control modules that are not responding.

Update:
They "...honestly do not know what's wrong with your car".

Right now their plan is to fly in an engineer from Audi, somebody smart I guess. They want the engineer to look at my car.

Hey Captain,
Maybe it does, suck to be me? winks: grins:
