Default Engine Codes

Hi Guys,
I just had my B6 S4 back from a dealer after a service.

It has two engine fault codes logged that weren't there before:

2 Faults Found:
17944 - Camshaft Timing Adj. Bank2 (N208): Open Circuit
P1536 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
17936 - Camshaft Timing Adj. Bank1 (N205): Open Circuit
P1528 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

Car has 65,000 miles, seems to be driving ok now, but I know the mechanics had the car out for a "test drive". Anyone know how these codes would be caused and what could need to be replaced ?

Default camshaft timing adjustment

Hi,

I got this error code as well on an A4 with V6 3.0 engine, but only on one bank. The car was apparently riding fine in the flat country and slow traffic of the Netherlands, but when riding at higher speed accross Germany and in the mountains, I realised that there was a loss of power.

There is possible correlation with the connectors leading to the camshaft adjustment units. There are 4 cables/connectors leading to the rear end of the 4 camshafts (one for intake and one for outlet for each of the two cylinder rows of the V engine). The sockets for the connectors are fixed with a screw on the engine housing. I found one of the screws was loose. Tightened the screw and had the error message deleted by the garage --> I hope now that the problem is fixed and won't occur again.

In any case, the error message 'open message' indicates an electrical contact failure, so before opening the engine and getting any (expensive) mechanical part changed, carefully check the electrical circuit.

Let me know if you have any news.
