ESP Induced Understeer?

I'd previously discussed a feeling of pushing or understeer when turning sharply relative to speed (especially after braking); and the board's diagnosis seemed to be the clumsy way the B6 power steering adjusts to speed changes. However, I recently discovered that this feeling disappears when the ESP is switched off. (FWIW, I'm running h-sport bars.)
My question is--is it possible that the ESP has been responsible for these prior symptoms? I'd thought ESP lit up the indicator light when it was acting--but my recent experience suggests it may have been working undercover to induce this feeling of sloppy handling when turning hard. It wouldn't surprise me of so--I understand that ESP applies the brakes to control the car, and the feeling I experienced with ESP active was similar to what you'd feel if you were braking throughout the turn. Also, I find that the car turns much more sharply about its yaw axis now--which would be consistent with what's been said here about ESP activating upon a certain threshold of its yaw sensor.
This sound right to anyone?
Thx.

There is no way to turn this off with out pulling the ABS fuse.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/tools/glossary/engine_driveline/electronic_differential_lock.html">http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/tools/glossary/engine_driveline/electronic_differential_lock.html</a</li></ul>

I was under the impression that if any of the ESP systems are activated that the light will flash. But i'm starting to agree with s.cars. I usually only see the light flash if i am on the gas, not if i am on the brake like s.cars describes. But Audi categorizes the ABS and EBD as part of the ESP system correct? So, in theory they should light up too.
It seems the understeer is somewhat due to the EBD which applies the brakes accordingly to stop the back end from breaking free and in so inducing understeer. Which could be why when ESP is disabled you get less understeer. Thoughts?<ul><li><a href="http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/tools/glossary/safety/electronic_brake_force_distribution.html">http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/tools/glossary/safety/electronic_brake_force_distribution.html</a</li></ul>
