Default ESP light blinking on rapid acceleration? Anyone have the same?

I was trying a quick accel from a light and my ESP was NOT on. In shifting to second gear at about 3500 rpm and releasing the clutch the ESP light blinked several times and car jerked like i popped the clutch. the esp light continued to blink as i gave it gas. the rpms reved but the car didn't go. roads were dry. not sure what happened but it has happened a couple times. is the clutch slipping, not fully engaged, why is the ESP light blinking?

Any comments?

the ESP light OFF means the ESP is engaged.

Default why do you all buy these cars when you cant understand the simple things?

I would think that if you can afford such a nice car you would understand the concept of ESP and how it works. What happened to you is normal so go and learn something about your car.

Default thanks for shining such a bright light on the answer...

...which is?

very helpful.

he obviously doesn't get the UI associated with ESP, which is understandable. not everyone has had their audi for 12 years.

Default if the light was blinking, it was on.

if the ESP truly was off and the car behaved as you described, you smoked the clutch...and your nose would have verified that.

I agree, the ESP light is somewhat difficult to understand for someone who doesnt know how it works. Who would think off means on. I dont think you had to bash him like that, im sure you dont know everything about cars either. Thats why we are here, to answer questions.

Default Brad - here you go about the ESP light . . .

When the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) blinks, it is activating traction control to reduce slip/yaw. You probably heard your ABS go off, which is how it works.

When you push the ESP button, the light will come on constantly. That means the ESP is off.

Audi wants you to keep it activated all the time, that is why the annoying light is on when it is deactivated.
Besides straight line acceleration, it will also activate automatically if the car begins to understeer/oversteer (skid/yaw). A burst of ABS to the proper wheel will straighten out the car (in theory). Don't even consider deactivating it until you take a proper driving course, and even then, keep it on - it has saved lives - just search the archives. Don't become one of those wrecks wrapped around a tree that we see on the news.

A "Thanks" will be good enough.

Default My ESP light went off for no reason last week. I brought it to the dealership and they told me...

that it had something to do with my brake light. I don't understand the relationship, but they fixed/replaced whatever the parts were under warranty. And haven't had a problem since.

might as well get it checked out.

I have been having a problem where the ESP, ECU, and check engine light randomly come on during driving. If I pull over and turn the car off and on, all systems check out normal. When I told the dealer about this he told me next time to check if my brake lights stay on when this happens. I think theres a bug in the brake, esp system. Anyone know anything about this.
