Default Time to speed doesn't determine who wins a side-by-side race. Time to distance does.

Those are different concepts. That's why 2 cars can have the same ET but different trap speeds. Most likely, the car with the higher trap speed would have been LOSING the race before the end of the 1/4. It's very possible for a car with a 4.6 second 0-60 time to be losing a race to a 5.0 second 0-60 car after only 4.6-5.0 seconds. The fact that it is losing but going faster only means it's behind and gaining, but still losing the race at that point in time nonetheless. Heck, anytime someone is gaining on you from behind in a race, you are winning the time to distance race even though at that speed you have a slower time to speed.
