Default The binding is NORMAL and is caused by the Quattro system due to the difference

in turning radius between the inside and outside tires. I aslo have the same condition on both my AWD S4 and AWD Mountainer. Get used top it because there is nothing to fix . What you are hearing is the friction between the tires and the road surface due to Quattro system not allowing one of the wheels to turn at a different rate at slow speed.

How can that be? Audi's diffs are "open" I believe. There should not be binding, "crabbing".

Default No way

First, I have zero binding on my S4. On the way into the office on this morn, I did a couple tight turns back and forth in my culdesac and there is zero binding on my S4. And I know what binding is, because I had it on my Touareg due to an increasingly bad stepper. The function of a stepper motor is to effectively eliminate the binding that would occur due to the differing wheel speeds. I have zero binding on my AWD Land Cruiser as well.

If you can actually notice the binding you've got something wrong, and if it's bad you're in for faster wear on your tires and your drivetrain.

Default Then there must be the same problem with both my AWD cars.

They behave exactly the same. Same scrubbing of tires as I make a slow left hand turn into my garage. It is definitely the tires scrubbing against the asphalt. I have heard it from outside the car. BTW, I doesn't happen when the driveway is wet.
