Default First oil & filter change...what an experience!

Hi Guys,

I just did my first oil / filter change. How many quarts does the 05 S4 take? I first started with 9.5 qts and nothing registered on the stick. I started the engine and now my check engine light is on. I read the light and it says that the engin rpms were too high. What the hell does that mean? Well figuring I better add more oil I added another couple of quarts and it is now in the safe zone on the dip stick. Does anyone know whether the "too high rpm" code is only due to the fact that I only had like 9.5 quarts in the car? BTW: I used Castrol Syntec 5W30.

UPDATE: During the oil change, I originally had tried to use a POS syphon tool. Well the tube got stuck and when removing it with some pliers; the dip stick tube moved a little bit. I'm not sure whether this is a sealed system?? If so, could breaking the seal throw this engine code??

$HiT!! Does anyone know how much this is going to cost me to fix??

P0507 Idle air control System RPM higher than expected.

you moved the dipstick pipe a lot, the car only takes 8 quarts in the engine
the fault is common to see in the 4.2, would not worry about at this time
have the dealer or a shop take a look at it for the oil level, you may damage the catalytics with all that oil
and remember this is not your father,s oldsmobile, take the car to a shop for service next time

Car takes 8 quarts of oil. The manual states to check the oil when the car is warm. Otherwise an inaccurate reading will be shown. Do not overfill!

Yes u can do it ur self. Don't use that bs syphon tool! Taking off and putting the plastic shield is the hardest part. The rest is a piece of cake.

The plastic cover is odd shaped and tricky to put back on, I suggest only taking off the minimum amount of screws towards the front drivers side. This will make it easier to put back together. Next make sure u have a container large enough to hold 10 quarts of oil.
