Flickering and dipping headlight

Re: Flickering and dipping headlight
Same problem with my 2005.5 S4 Avant. I contacted Audi and I suggested that I contact the BBB for mediation. I think that they've got a real design problem. I'd urge you to complain to Audi.
I ended up bargaining with the dealer to buy the parts and have them install N/C. Still the parts cost $250+. And now the other headlight flickers. Did I mention design problem?

Gday all,
I had the same issue ( 25th 06 S4.)
Bulb would douse and then have trouble restriking. Have the 4 yr 50m service warranty so it was covered.
They did the ballast and bulb but only one side.. ( kinda dumb as the BOTH strike the same amount)
I'm waiting to see the problem on the other side now......
Never saw a bill but it cant be cheap.......
Mind you..only 12 months left on warranty..... boo hoo!

I had been dealing with this for about two years now with things progressively getting worse. After several "could not duplicate" and "computer doesn't show any code" episodes, I was finally able to get a code one visit and actually delivered the car to them with the condition on another. This finally proved that there was a problem.
They tried a TSB and replacing a bulb but, finally, after dealer discussions with Audi, they suggested replacing the igniters. Ever since that visit, the headlights have not dipped much less flickered once.
Covered under warranty.
I'm calling it fixed in my case.
Eric.

This problem has occurred from time to time on my 2006 S4. I have always been able to solve it by turning the headlights off. When I turn them back on the dipped headlight always corrects itself. I haven't had any problems with the bulb itself, but when the light dips the bulb will automatically go out. It doesn't happen to me often enough to justify spending several hundred dollars to fix, but if there really is a design problem AUDI should make good on their rep and fix it with a recall. A malfunctioning headlight is a safety issue.

I have the same issue on my 2006 Audi A4 2.0
Please click the link below and file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This may result in a mandatory recall from Audi. We are stronger in numbers.

Contact NHTSA
I already contacted NHTSA today for the same problem plus other issues.
I own a 2005.5 Audi S4. My wife drive it to work & back, that's it, not even performance driving.
Last month, at around 50k miles, I had to replace gaskits, engine cover caps, fuel pumps, and still having transmission oil leakage for which I am dealing with Audi of America. So far the service manager is non-responsive and I am told he is out of country. But he was aware of this for at least 2 weeks before leaving for Germany, according to sources from Audi of America.
Also to add on, starting few days back, the headlights started flickering. If I turn off the lights and turn them on again, they are fine. After reading this forums, it shows how flawed these cars are in design. They drive the best, look the best but their eletrical and powertrains are not reliable at all. People owned Audi's in the past always complained about these issues and I never believed them saying that they were just winers about maintaining expensive German cars. But they were so true and I was so wrong. The S4 is unbeatable in interiors, driving and looks but reliability is bad....period. Audi can't sell crap cars in this country, they need to be told by NHTSA.
Contact NHTSA to address any issues you are having with your Audi and let them deal with it. they are pretty strict these days and recall/s is possible. Writing at these forums wouldn't help anybody, go contact NHTSA complaint center, I did online just today.
