Starting on all 2005 4.2L Models the oil used in the crankcase change has been upped to synthetic. So if you have bought your own syn in the past like me for your "free" scheduled oil changes because you wanted to run syn in lieu of dino you will be treated to syn by the dealer from now on.
Now it's Castrol and not Mobile 1...BUT...Castrol Syn is still better than the best premium dino.

Vollsynthetisch means full synthetic in german, i was just being stupid. ECS tuning carries it, along w/ all the OEM fluids ( coolant, brake, etc.) and the stuff meets all the certs and more. It's also like 5.99 a qt. so it is as much as M1 but better. Check it out on the ECS tuning website. Click on the maintenace section. Autobahnfluids.com carries it, too. Machtig turned me on to it and it is real good. Has a good UOA after 10k miles. It's OEM for most german cars. It is approved for BMW longlife use. MB, too. The Pentosin website (thats the name of the company) has a lot of info, also. BTW, all the fluids in your car are made by Pentosin.

I think he is but he mentioned it when he answered a question i asked and i checked it out...
It's a great oil, common in germany but rare here. Europe gets all the good stuff. For the price it's unbeatable. The motul is like $8+ and ive seen it for $14, too.

Some argument here... my dealer says all S4 V8s and 1.8Ts now get synthetic...
They may be wrong, but they're paying for free synthetic on my 2004 S4, so no complaints from me...

Is this documented somewhere?
I want proof to show my dealer in case they won't give me synthetic. I asked them what oil they use when I bought my car and they told me that they were not sure...they would decide when I brought my car in. TIA
