Default Front License Plate

In Washington State I was told the law is if your car doesnot have an plate bracket you donot need to display an license plate. My dealer told me they have to put on an plate frame no matter what. They drill through the front bumper insert.Dealer then told me I could remove the plate & order a new painted bumper insert for $100.Also was told plate frame could be mounted with insert out thus saving me $100.Front plate takes away from the great lines. What have others done?Any Washingtonions dealt with this yet? Thanks John

Default Re: Front License Plate

get the bumper insert or euro plate. What? They charge you only $100 for the bumper insert?

Default prices lower, panel can be hard to remove yourself

No advice on laws, but insert will cost $50. I paid $70 more to get it painted. Also, others have said it is no big deal to remove panel, but I had a *bitch* of a time getting mine off. Had to get a little medieval with it, actually broke off one of the tabs. (Hope I never get a fix-it ticket!) The replacement went on relatively easy.

Default Tell them you won't accept delivery of the car if they drill the bumper.

If you are custom ordering a car, it won't have the holes until after PDI, which is done at the dealership. When I ordered my A4 in Colorado, my dealer gave me the same line about HAVING to drill the holes due to laws blah blah blah. I said there was no deal if they put those holes there, and I got it in writing. After some arguing, they agreed and I got my car how I wanted it: no front plate, no holes in bumper. They're only too happy to drill the holes, since they think they'll make another $100 off of you for the new insert. Be firm, my guess is that they will eventually bend for you. And then get it in writing.

That's how I run. I've gotten ticketed once in 14 years of no front plate driving

Default Saw an A8L with an integrated front license plate holder.

Wonder if we can get one for the S4.

Default Well - I bought my car in Oregon and specifically requested no plate mounts from the day I ordered

the car last May and the dealer agreed to this.

I have been driving the roads in Washington since late August and no one has bothered me yet. I work in downtown Vancouver across the street from the Sheriffs department and see deputies every day and don't even get a glance.....

Default They may have actually believed that.

You'd be surprised at how little most sales folk know about the PDI process, unfortunately. I had the same conversation with my dealer. Luckily I worked at a dealership in a non-sales capacity so I knew the truth.

Default My std cool idea for a front plate post which is generally slammed, but I still say is a good idea.
