Fuel Pump Whine

Long time no post for me. Just an FYI that I did a search on here and found some good information on fuel pump noises. Mine started whining really loudly about a week ago. I had never heard this before and started freaking that the fuel pump was going. Only have 48k on an '04 S4 and thought that was absurd. After searching the A4 and S4 pages, I found out that this is somewhat common. Audi apparently considers the fuel filter a lifetime part, which is a bit nuts. I have not even been able to locate a recommended replacement interval from Audi. The searches on here however suggested that replacing the fuel filter would take care of the problem. So I called the dealership and was quoted $215 to fix, $50 part and 1.5 hrs labor. I ended up trying out a local indy place and they did it for $80, $50 part and 0.5 hrs labor. Anyways, the whining has stopped and the problem seems to be resolved. So food for thought incase anyone else starts hearing fuel pump noises. Try changing the filter first.
