I just got off the phone with an Audi rep "Otto" and he confirmed that the full screen Nav will NOT be available on the new S4.
Has any one here had experience with the center instrument panel read out unit? If so what are your impressions?
This is disappointing.. not quite a deal breaker but that and the German Political attitude gives me pause to think carefully.

I just had a test of the center console Nav, and I'm 100% sold on it.
I'm in Germany on vacation, and I rented a TT with Nav. I've never driven in Europe before, and was planning on touring the countryside. The Nav system worked flawlessly, and I think having the display in the center of the dashboard (Rather than where the radio is) makes it alot easier to use in a high-pressure driving environment--it's easy to glance down and see the directions from the system.
Also, the system's spoken directions were a huge help. It made it very clear when a turn was coming up, and when it was time to actually turn.
The system was very accurate guiding me across very small 1-lane roads and thru small towns.
Given that the small Nav system will cost around $1300, it seems like quite a good value.

There's a small scroll wheel in the armrest area (with 4 buttons that control the nav system). To enter a location, you just scroll thru each letter on the screen. It only shows the valid letters at each step. So for instance, if you were going to a town called Xylophone, once you entered X it might only show that you can pick Y. It might also just show Xylophone with the 'return key' highlighted.
