Default Gas Mileage

This car eats more gas than anything else I have ever driven. How come Chevy can produce a V-8 the makes 400-500 hp and has better gas mileage, yet Audi is incapable?

Default The S4 needs to go on a diet

It's all about the weight of the car. Look at the 3100 lb C6 Z06 with its 505 HP engine. It gets around 25 MPG on the highway. Heavy car + good performance = poor gas mileage.

They don't care. We all bought it, anyway. Yes it's sad.

Default Oh come on, does 800 lb more mass at highway speeds really cut mileage by that much?

As low tech as GM pushrod engines are, they are relatively fuel efficient. Audi simply did not care about fuel consumption in the B6/B7. Hopefully 7-speed DSG and FSI will help things in the B8. cylinder deactivation or something could have helped this engine out. That plus lose some mass.

Even rich guys don't like to waste money on gas.

Default How many times do you have more than one person in your car?

I can't remember the last time I had more than two...then again I don't have a family. I have heard that the Z06 can carry quite a bit of cargo too (more than my sedan I bet!)

Default The highway difference is a function of the granny gearing the Z06 has in 6th.

You won't find that type of gearing on a German car as it's useless in Germany.
