Hello all. As a previous owner of an A6 2.7T I am no stranger to Audi and I'm seriously considering a 2004 or 2005 S4 manual. I was hoping I could get a heads up on what to watch out for and what the common modifications are for these years. Is the exhaust very quiet stock and is there an aftermarket system that isn't too loud that most people prefer? Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated. Thanks-Paul

Paul,
You might consider checking-out the A.W.E. Tuning "resonated" version of this exhaust ~$1035 USD:

I'm new to Audiworld having recently a well-kept, 1-owner, dealer-maintained '04 S4 MT6 w/~80k. Good luck with your search...seem to be plenty of them out on the market right now.
Best,
Tim

The AWE exhaust is great, but for an extra 400 bucks I would HIGHLY recommend the Milltek system. They also offer a resonated and non-resonated kit. They make amazing power, and the sound is perfect. You can view a video of the kits on youtube for comparison. I had the milltek non-resonated kit on my '04 S4. I'm looking to put it on my '05 S4 as well.

So the resonated kit adds another muffler (resonator) to make it quieter? How loud is it without the added resonator? I commute and definitely do not want any drone. I like the sound of the exhaust on acceleration, though.

Paul,
I have no first hand knowledge of any of the exhausts mentioned (although there is a lot of information out there on them), but I have a Labree catback exhaust on my car. (labreemotorsports.com) I believe the price was around $1,000.00--i think a few bucks more actually, and the sound is NOT loud at all, except acceleration. In fact, I actually wanted it to be louder and was a little disappointed in the fact that it wasn't. Anyways, top notch look, fit, and customer service with Labree as it's a guy and his wife who own and run the company. Worth a shot...if you want pics just search this forum for Labree or go on youtube...
Good luck..
Matt
