Has there been a DEFINITE solution to the cold start problem?

I searched the forums and found all kinds of possible solutions for the common cold start problem. However, I didn't find any posts with a definitive solution. I'm well out of warranty on my '04 and would appreciate any help here. Possible solutions I've found were battery, starter, starter solenoid, and starter relay. Is there any consensus on the real culprit???
Also, this morning was the first time it didn't kick over on the second try... it took about 5-10 minutes of trying. When it did finally start... both Climate Control readouts showed "HI". I've never even turned them up that far before and it's never done that before. Possibly significant!?!?
Thanks in advance.

But I thought the starter and starter solenoid were sold as one unit. I don't think it's the solenoid or relay as I could hear the solenoid engaging on my 04 S4. The dealer said they replaced the starter and solenoid. Battery was OK and the problem was solved after replacement.
Based on watching this board since before the B6 S4 was launched I'd say the starter/solenoid has been the biggest culprit. However, the sensible approach would be to have your battery tested first (or just replace it since it's 3+ years old). If it's not the battery or connections between the battery and starter I would say it's likely the starter.
However, I have not heard of a similar case where teh climate control went to "HI".

I actually just got my Bentley the other day... haven't found anything significant in there yet, but i'm still fumbling around. :-)
I think I will have the battery load tested just to be thorough, Although, I would be shocked if that is the guilty component.
For such a common problem I would have expected a more common solution... but there seem to be so many "fixes" for the problem it just makes no sense. And the climate control thing... total curve ball. ;-)
