dealership?
I hope your car will be fixed soon, and I hope someone at Audi of North America reads this.

I am not saying this is the issue on your car. But I saw a fellow had kinda a similar issue with his A8. Basically the rev limits for the motor are much lower in limp mode situations or under certain situations like oil temp too hot or bad signal from the speed sensor or any other dependent input for safety.
In the end the A8 guy had a bad oil temp sending unit this was stopping the car from revving past 4000 from what i remember. Definitely look at it with the Vag. When it happens check for codes some time you will get lots of codes and no CEL
Definitely keep us posted

I don't think it was a VAG specific tool, but nevertheless, I appreciate that they could even do it for me. He wasn't sure of the specific code, but it is spitting out two 02 sensor codes that show the left bank is running too lean. Does this help or should I find someone with a VAG-Com?
the problem wasn't apparent in the 3 miles I drove the car today, but I know that if I got it at all, it would reproduce itself again within 15 minutes.

and so did the service writer, but they were supposedly checked out and fine. as we're the coilpacks, though the car doesn't run rough per se - it just doesn't put out power.
i have always run 93, except one occurrence about 2 months ago where a gas station didn't have 93 and I needed gas badly; even then, it was $20 worth of 89, and I hardly think that could cause for concern.
could it be sparks plugs that have fouled up? they haven't been replaced yet.
