Default HELP! WTF! I emailed Michelin about my new PS2 tires and they sent me a WTF email...

I have an 04 S4 and wanted to know what they recommend for inflation pressure and they said the 235/35R19 tires with 91Y load rating do not have the load carrying capacity as the original Contis (at 95Y). They said they would not recommend the tires for my car! I got these tires from the TireRack.

I see on TireRack's website that 91Y is the max available for 235/35 R19 tires. Should I return everything, go back to 18" and get 95Y tires?

Put on the 91ys and don't sweat it. Others have done so without problems.

Default Y put 19's on the S anyway's. It looks great w/ the 18's? Does it have to do w/ performance or

merely looks?

Default 19's look so much better then 18's...

especially if you have a suspension on that car. The S4 was made to have 19" wheels, the 18's just look small.

91Y on 19" wheels are fine. 91Y is considered extra load in 19" tire.

Default I've struggled with the to XL or not to XL question myself...

Although the available tire selection goes way up if you allow yourself to consider lower load rated tires, I am currently leaning towards sticking with 95 XL. Audi could have put the Sport Contact 2 tires on in a 91Y and saved a dollar or two but they didn't. Sure it was probably some bus-riding liability lawyer that made them do it but even they can't be wrong all the time.

To make this more confusing, I can't determine the corelation between XL and actual load rating. Conti makes the SC2 in a 91 and a 95 and gives the 95 an XL rating. Mich makes the PS2 in an 87 and 91 with the 91 getting an XL. Maybe XL just means 'more than the other one' - makes it kind of a worthless rating.

Anyway - as a few folks have said already, everyone using a 91 load rating seems to be succesful so maybe we are just wasting our time worrying.

Default TireRack says said Audi probably only put the 95Y to sharpen the handling, not for load

and that 91Y would have been sufficient.

This is horrible. I guess ignorance is bliss.
