Default How much does wheel weight matter on an S4?

I am coming from Miata and Subaru land where wheel weight makes a big difference. Heck, I have 15s on the Miata just to get under 10 lbs.

For an S4, it takes a very $$ wheel to get down to the low 20s. How much does a 25-30 lb wheel matter to something as heavy as an S4 if track driving is not in its future?

Default the same physics apply. Less rotational mass = better everything.

You can get a good sub-20lb 18" wheel for pretty darn cheap.

Default

I would say mainly ride quality, perhaps less noticeable off the track is turn-in ability.

Default In postings I have read by those who are better experts than me - they have noticed

a difference in the quickness of the car and in the handling. This was especially true in the B5 A/S4s where the stock S4 wheels were 28lbs and only 17's

Default It doesn't have to cost much, I had Enkei RPM2's on my B6 S4, 19lbs, ~250 each

Also used them on a B5 A4 and my R32, great wheels.

They make a big differance over stock, I saved ~11lbs per corner, much more responsive and a decent bit faster off the line.

Check my pic post for mor pics, here are a few.

Default my .02 on wheel weight...

As far as un-sprung weight goes, I think too often emphasis is placed on the weight of the wheel, and not enough on the tire. What weight is saved on a wheel might be gained right back with a heavier tire, with that extra weight sitting as far off from center as possible and having an even greater effect on handling. Any wheel between 18-21 lbs should be just fine - just mind the tire weight.

Default Tire weight definitely helps ...

I made the most of the weight savings when upgrading my wheels by researching many tires. The ride as well as handling improvement was quite noticeable. Tires I have are Hankook K104's and with my Volks, I'm at a combined weight of 41 lbs per corner.
