I purchased a 2006 S4 this past summer and it has so far been great other than a few minor things.

Quick history:

When imported from the US to Canada, I took it to get inspected, found an oil leak, took it to the dealer, they replaced the valve cover gasket. Problem solved back in September 2008.

Dec. 1st 2008 Min. oil light comes on. Check oil, dipstick pretty much dry. Put in a litre of oil. Warning goes away, car seems just fine. Ok, I guess I am not used to a car that burns oil. I disregard it.

Fast forward to today, Jan 5th 2009. 35 days later (almost to the hour actually), my min oil light is on again. I put in a litre of oil, its still seems low, but the warning is gone, so for the moment, Im content in driving it.

Is a litre or more in 35 days normal? too much?

I burn 1 qt every 3000 miles which is typical... convert that to metrics!

Really? Thats about a litre every 4800km's... Which is close to what I have done.

How does one derive oil loss by the number of days that has passed?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/53054/audiletter0001.jpg"></center><p>IMHO, it is a total cop out. Unless you are spewing oil out of your engine, you will almost never consume enough oil for audi to consider it "EXCESSIVE", which is OVER 1qt consumed per 1000 miles.

When I had my X5, I constantly complained about oil burning until it finally lost a quart every 450 miles or so monitored by a particular dealership. I ended up with an engine rebuild and new 0-rings for my engine..

My B7 S4 just went through oil change without having to top it up since last oil change.
