Default Howling/grinding noise coming from engine area of B7 S4

Has anyone experienced this before? Shortly after my 5K service I noticed a slight howling noise coming from engine area. It appears to be temperature independent and is loudest right after starting the engine (for about 5 sec), then gets quieter but never fully disappears. I can also feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel. Initially I thought it was normal but it seems to be getting louder every day. Oil levels are fine.
Since we share the same engine (and everything else under the hood) I was wondering whether anybody has experienced this before and can help me diagnose the problem.

Did you check power steering fluid?

Default Thanks! Could this have caused any permanent damage?

Can I buy this fluid and fill it up myself, or should I have the dealer do this?
Thanks for your help!

Default No....

You could do either route. I just went ahead and got my self a bottle of Pentosin hydraulic fluid and filled it up myeslf every once in a while. Beats taking time off to run by the Dealership.

Easier to go to the dealer for it. It is special fluid. No damage likely.
