I asked AoA to explain the "timing belt" replacement requirement in the S4 maintenance manual.

The manual says that the "timing belts" on the 4.2L V8 (except Allroad and A8) should be changed at 75K miles. I pointed out to them in writing that the S4's 4.2L V8 has timing chains, not belts. The response was that there is NO recommended replacement interval for the timing chains on this engine; however, the "ribbed belts" (i.e., accessory drive belts on the front of the engine) should be changed at 75K miles. This coincides with what my service advisor says.
That is all.
That is all.

That means until AoA officially says "we recommend you change the timing chain at 90K" there is no replacement interval...
