I have posted this question on the A6 board because I wanted to stay with the larger car. But it sounds like the A6 4.2 is not going to meet my speed needs after a discusion there. looks like the 4.2 in the 2004 A6 os 300 hp and the 4.2 in the 2004 S4 is around 340 I think. Plus the S4 is lighter. I would rather not go back to the 2.7 just because I do not want to chip the car and have the turbo's blow. I know when you chip the 2.7 it goes like rocket.

I used to have a 2001 A6 2.7 T. I got rid of that and bought a BMW 540 6 Speed Sport. I have just recently sold the 540 and in the market for another car. The only reason I went with the 540 over the A6 4.2 when I sold the 2.7 was power. The 540 stock was quicker than the auto 4.2 at the time, which was about 2 years ago, and there were not many mods for the 4.2 for power increase. The 540 0-60 times stock are 5.5 and I think the 4.2 was in the 6's. I have done a couple minor mods to the 540, which has brought the 0-60 down to about 4.9-5.0 (3.15 Diff, Software, Exhaust, Intake Etc). Each car was special in it's own way. The thing I really liked about the Audi is I could run it year round (SNOW).

I was behind an 2004/2005 S4 at a set of lights and when he hit the gas hard I did also. results were he did not pull on me and I was not going to gain ground. I would say if we were side by side it would of been neck and neck. I had in my head when we took off he would leave me even with my mods. I was surprised when he did not walk. Question here is did I just outdrive him or would it of been an even race with my mods? All I could tell is he had an exhaust that sounded amazing.

So the questions are what can I expect for 0-60 times, 1/4 and trap speed on a 2004 S4?

I am also looking at the E46 M3's and Mercedes C32. The only issue I have there is I may want Q again so I can drive this car year round with comfort. If anyone has any experience with B6 S4 VS C32 and B6 S4 VS E46 M3 Coupe 6 Speed I would be interested in hearing.

From the A6 board it does not seem like there are many mods for the B6 S4. Someone mentioned a chip and exhaust. How much power does the chip provide?

but not by much. Modded, an S4 will 0-60 in 4.5 - 4.9, 1/4 mile in 13.2 - 13.6 and trap at 103-105. These are all rough estimates and will vary depending on individual engine strength and driver ability.

I had a 2001 A6 4.2 Modded with just about everything except a Supercharger and it was a quick car but nothing crazy. S4 Auto vs. A6 4.2 i would take the A6 but S4 6 speed vs. the 4.2 i would take the S4 every time. I have driven a couple S4's and i think they are great seats are awesome and great handling. My A6 had Brembos, Coilovers, Remap, Exhaust, 3" Resonators from RS6, wheels and it was great!! I currently have an RS4 and it just honestly is the best car i have ever driven period. If budget allows i would go with the RS4. It handles amazing, 0-60 4.2-4.5 Stock 1/4 between 12.70's to 13.20's. I had raced a 540i with my 4.2 when i was stock and i pulled about a 1 car length on it till 130. So dont be fooled the A6 holds its own.

So here is my choices:
1) B7 RS4
2) B6/B7 S4 6 Speed
3) C5 A6 4.2 Auto
4) B6/B7 S4 Auto.

A stock RS4 will not go 12.70. I've yet to see one in the states go quicker than 12.90.
