I still don't get why M3's hold their value SO much better than the S4?

the used car market must be stronger on the M3 than the S. Demand will drive a cars resale up. Hondas have crazy resale on a % to new price, does this make it better than the Audi or BMW? Nope! I personally know a few early 20ish guys at work that just lust after the M3 and just think its bomb. Dont get me wrong, they love my car but its just not their mousse in the hair, go tanning everyday lifestyle : ) I think youth drives the volume. Our cars are much more mature therefore the demand in the used car world is less. Quattro to a mid 20-ish kids is a snore I guess, they want to do burn outs and donuts all day long plus brag about what Motor Trend said about their car. A guy I work with just got a used one and the first thing he said was "man, i thought it was supposed to be a lot faster" - LOL! He got served....

The E90/E92's are just hitting the showroom floors now. Wait until the E92 M3 hits and watch the prices of E46 M3's drop....quickly. It'll all even out soon.
For reference, look at the E39 M5 pricing history before/after the E60 M5.
I'd agree the BMW brand has an overall better resale value than Audi. The M cars just depreciate at a different pace.

So relative to the BMW's, Audi's are already a leg down. The M cars have always been a little special on the used market. One would have thought with the proliferation of E46's, that would change, but it really hasn't.
If you're looking for value on the used market, Audis are a great buy, but if you're buying new, and you expect to turn the car over in the next 5 years, and Audi is a tough proposition when you're evaluating the numbers.
Why? That's just the way it is.

BMWs are considered by many to be more desireable than Audis. Very HOT in the used car market. Audis, not as hot. Its all about the name and the perception!
