Default I was surprised with my gas mileage today.

I had been getting 14-15 mpg around town with some highway driving. But today, on a 1 hr round trip, I was amazed to see 19.5 ave mpg. I was driving on a combination of winding rural back roads and 2 lane highway at speeds between 45 and 65 mph. Terrain was varied with some level roads, but many hills and valleys. Just shy of 5000 mile mark, temp in the low 60's. I don't know if this was just an aberation or is a glimpse of things to come?

Default As I always say...

you can get good gas milage in this car, you just have to be very steady in the gas/rpm's and be in a high gear and you can do it. Has you been on just highways you probably could have gotten 22+ mpg. It is possible.

Default LA streets provide MUCH better mileage. I'm getting anywhere from 13-15 on the street

vs 7-12 in Berkeley.

Default Combination of the car getting more broken in and possibly you getting more used to driving it?

I have seen similar trends and sometimes wonder if I am starting to just drive it more instead of constantly gunning it to feel the thrill of it's acceleration. I still do romp up the freeway ramps, but its probably less frequent than when I first had it broken in (yeah I know - you did this to begin with

End result - car is better broken in and I am spending less time with the pedal in the floor?

Default I get around 20-21 on the highway at average speed of 80.

If I were to keep it at around 65 (just can't seem to do it), I suspect I'd get much better than that at around 24mpg.

Default Did 200 miles casual country road drive - averaged 22.9 on the computer "Tip"

I was always under 70 but passed other cars a few times -- floor boarded it to ~ 80 briefy -- just a nice drive.
I find it's getting better milage maybe me not "testing" it every time I drive it.
It now has around 4,000 miles on it. It feels faster at times. As we all know it has its own personality.

Default actually I have found that the sweetspot for the best gas mileage is driving between 75 and 80...

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I find it strange that if I am just sitting at idle for an extended period (say more than 2 minutes), my MPG's will go down to like 7 MPG's. Every time I see this I am like WTF??
