noticing a notchyness and slight grind upshifting from 2nd into 3rd...would I also feel the notchyness and a grind downshifting from 4th into 3rd? My trans shifts very smooth, even 1st to 2nd now that they tighened the trans crossmember but 3rd occasionally seems notchier and gets a slight grind at higher RPM shifts...say..above 5000rpm but it never seems to grind on downshifts...Also I occasionally get a "clunk" still when I shift into 1st while stopped.

I had a similar problem with my S4.I had a bad grind between 4th ad 5th but only when I was up in higher RPMs. I noticed this after about 6000 miles. The dealer would not get the car up in rpms to find the issue. It was finally fixed after 20k that it got worse, they had to redo the trans 3 times before it was fixed. Since the fix my car smells like burning oil when pushing the car. Before the trans issue I also had a powersteering issue and the whole rack and pinion needed to be replaced. This issue also started the same time as the trans issue

It turned out that they replaced the Syncros for fifth and sixth. They also replaced second, fifth, and sixth gear. Second gear was replaced because they did not like the way it looked. Said it wasn't as sharp as it could be. The other 2 where replaced because of the grind I would get.
Downshifting never gave me a problem.
