Although I first heard an RS6 run about a month ago I have just been able to drive one this week. What a monster! The sound just makes you giddy like an American muscle car. The S4 is so muted and soft compared to this thing. I hope there are aftermarket systems that will make the S4 sound close to the RS6. I wish Audi would work with quattro gmbh for the S cars so make them a little meaner. Oh, well. If the car were perfect from the start we would be bored with it..

Hi,
thats wrong, because the engine is too big for the small S4.Remember the S4 V8 is shorter than the normal V8 from A8 and RS6.There are only Rumors, about the new RS4 a V8 or an TT V6.
Cya,
Germany!!

I just got back from the S4 Driving School in Spain. I ask several of the folks from Audi about the RS4 and the response was nothing is certain at this point. They said that the RS6 had more or less taken the place of the RS4 for the time as the hot car from Audi. Usually they shoot strait on new products at these events. Some of these guys do test driving for Audi and other VW brands like Lamborghini. Word is the Gallardo is the sweetest sounding thing you may ever hear.

I have yet to see an official release from Audi. If you are referring to those prior posts with the video, I have seen pictures of the same car from just as reliable automobile press stating it had a 3.0L twin turbo V6. I have seen several other reports that Audi is evaluating both a twin turbo V6 and a 380 hp version of the current S4 normally aspirated V8 or may do separate engines for the American and European markets. So basically no one except Audi insiders know for sure and they may not have made a final decision yet.

Have you seen the new S4 on a lift? Those plungers in the two rear mufflers that quiet the exhaust up on the S4 just have vacumn lines attached to them. So, just remove the vacumn lines and the exhaust won't get muted under load. At least that's my theory, someone should try it since we don't have a car just yet.

of engine loads. I am still babying the throttle given that I only have 350 miles on my car, but those plungers seem to close up at even a breath of pressure on the throttle.
I am noticing this in the parking garage where I work - even the slightest acceleration to leave my parking space seems to close the valves and quiet the exhaust note. When I am backing into my space and really only at idle, the sound is very different with a much more notable exhaust rumble.
