Oh, i dont know- maybe a 5 liter at least. Something that could be used across platforms, Q7 to R8, etc.
The 4.2 is a fantastic engine, but i'm just thinking it should have a bigger brother soon.
Heck, MBenz is making a stonking 6.2liter V8 that will be in nearly every car they make. Thats a whole engine size bigger that our 4.2!
I know we'll have the 5.2 V10, but even that is smallish nowadays.

... Seen on the 2007 A6, A8, and Q7, the new 4.2FSI can reach 350hp without requiring high revving.
The forthcoming S5 will also probably have the 4.2FSi rated at least to 350hp.
Remember that companies like Mercedes need higher displacement becasue their engines aren't as advanced as Audi's.
For example, Merc's 5.0L V8 (non-turbo/supercharged) can only pump out 302hp. In other words, Audi can acheve 50 more horsepower with almost a liter less in displacement.
The 4.2FSI already has as much power (or more) as many other 5 or even 6 liter V8's. So why add the weight and gas consumption of more displavcement when the the 4.2 is already one of the world's greatest and most technologica;lly advanced engines?
Rememebr, today's 4.2FSI is an almost entirely different engine from the original 4.2 released several years back.

that they are predicting a forced induction V8 again, 550bhp and 410lbft. who knows.
Several predictions in the press for cars from several manufacturers have not panned out as speculated.

Audi engines are undersized, period.
The old saying, "There's no replacement for displacement" is very true.
My friends C6 vette is half again as big and gets WAAY better mileage.
Advanced? Bah.
