Just finished a 4 hour detail. Exhausted. Question about jack stands though...

I couldn't find an easy way to fit them under. They're very wide on the bottom and the lift points on our cars are pretty specific. How do you guys lift the car and place jack stands? Do you have the jack diagonal when you lift up?
Also, I couldn't get my wheels sparkling clean. The far majority of the filth is gone, but there are blotches on the inside where it's black. I could no longer scrub.
Have any of you guys with stock wheels yanked them off to clean? Did you get them to look brand new?

I do an initial scrub job using a wheel cleaner (no particular preference) and car shampoo. When they are dry, I go after the really ugly stuff, get a bottle of cheapie Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. It gets off pretty much all of the remaining deposits and the coat of wax will make cleaning them a little easier next time around.
I really haven't had any reason to use jack stands with this car yet, so haven't approached where I can use the jack from and still get the jack stands at the usual marked jack points.

like you get when your at the beach. Takes it right off, but not sure what else it might take off. (clear coat on the inners?)
Anyway, I normally stick the jack stands right underneath the subframe mounts. They are cast, and they have a relatively flat face to them. There's a bolt that connects through the base plate of the sub-frame and onto the engine. I find this to be the safest place to place the stands. We placed them underneath the tie rods when we did the exhaust swap. Such a mistake.

You can see the cast sub-frame on the rear with the two bracket points. Just lay the jack stands underneath and fit the flat part of the jack stand with the bolt. Works really well. Damn solid.

stands were used on my car recently when we had to rotate the bad Michelin P.S. A/S's. Swapping left to right for bad tires required the stands to do it. Actually only for the back was it done that way. The shop used the jack under the rear tranny housing (gently, w/a block of wood to cushion the housing), jack stands under both sides on the rocker jack points and pull off the tires. For the front they used a second floor jack on the front rocker points not wanting to jack under the engine anywhere. Get to do it all again on Monday, my 4 replacement Michelins await.
