Default Just received August issue of Road & Track

On page 144 under road test update for 2005 S4 with the new nose, Road & Track states 0-60 in 5.3 sec and braking from 80 - 0 216 ft. On page 146 where all the cars they have tested in the past are listed, the 2004 S4 tested on 11/04 states 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and braking from 80 - 0 256 ft. Also the 1/4 mile times are 1 sec apart. 12.9 vs 13.9. I am under the impression that underneath the reshaped nose and minor exterior changes everything else remained the same. Maybe they had a better driver this time around.

Default Also, conditions play a part

cool, hot, humid, elevation, etc.

There is no way a stock S4 will do 12.9 in the 1/4?? Also, there is no way the S4 stopped in 256ft from 80 - that is huge SUV territory. I think something is off. Also, car & Driver lists 0-60 as 5.0 so 5.5 seems slow. I think the tip will do 5.5

Default Individual differences between cars and track conditions. BTW

Within any sample of the same car, you will get a bell shaped curve of performance . Some being above/below/ave and everywhere in between. Also IMHO, the way the car was broken in can have a significant bearing on whether it will be fast or not.
