so when i leave my blinker on ... it lights up the front and rear lights on that side of the car for parking in a tight spot at night to light up the side of the car

Default It lets you know your side parking lights are on. You can turn them off

by returning your turn signal to the center position. I believe this is a European feature used when parking on narrow streets and isn't something you find on many cars sold in America.

Default Not only that,

You will also notice if the turn signal is left on, the tail lights and side marker lights will also stay on for at least 30 mins, maybe longer.

You are absolutely correct in your answer. My 1977 Porsche 924 had this feature too.

Default The '04 S4 Definitely does do this

Has happened to me three times. This occurance was posted about 2 weeks ago on the forum. Someone corectly diagnosed the problem as inadvertenty activating the turn signal and then turning off the ignition .Try it youself. Turn on a turn signal while the engine is running. Next, turn off the ignition and see what happens. End of mystery!

Default I like BiggerTwin's answer -- i think he's got it...

...your turn signal is also your "side parking lights" used to provide side lighting while you park. So the warning tells you you left your side parking lights on...here I thought it was something they taught in German Engineering School AE301 - Automotive Electronics.

Default i already answered this down below... they are euro park lights

they stay on until you turn them off...
not like the merc feature of the lights staying on for like a minute...

this is exists for parking your car along a curb in a dark arear... you have your car lit on the side away from the curb and it can be seen from both directions...

it will not go off until you return the blinker to the center position

Thanks! We had this thread before. We accepted it was by design but didn't know why.
