Low engine oil light.

Low engine oil light.
Hello guys,
I purchased 2004 S4 with 50K miles about 3 months ago.
Right at about 52K miles I got the low engine oil light.
I went on this forum and asked regarding this issue and a lot of people replied that it is normal for this car.
I had an oil change done at Audi dealership at about 52,500 miles. Everything was fine etc, but just today I got this low engine oil light again.
I am at about 55K now.
Is that normal for it to come up again?
How frequently does this light come up?
Is that a sign of a serious engine issue?
Sorry for so many questions, just a bit concerned regarding this.
On the related note, what surprised me, Audi told me to come back for next oil change at 56K. That is only 4K miles between oil changes. I believe with synthetic oil change you can go longer.
What it makes me think, is that the reason Audi makes more frequent oil changes, based on the issue of engine eating oil?
Thanks for all and any input.
Daniel

Re: 5K should be the interval on changes
Ok so 5K between oil changes is normal interval, even with synthetic oil?
I only added half a quart today and the light went away.
Is that a case of a very sensitive sensor for oil level?
Or does this car eat oil pretty regularly?
Maybe when Audi changed oil they did not fill the oil to the correct level?
Thanks a lot for your input.

What was the level on the dip stick? Does it measure full?
or did you only put enough in to turn the light off?
If you consume enough, you can ask for an oil consumption test from Audi service. Someone might have the criteria for that...but 1qt every 1000 miles has been confirmed normal according to Audi.
If it's only used half a quart in 2500 miles, it sounds like the low oil sensor is a bit sensitive and not normal from what I understand.
I think Audi might say 10K on oil changes, but you are doing so at your own risk. Oil tests have shown that it is best done at 5K. It's cheap insurance.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4b6/msgs/426013.phtml</a

Re: What was the level on the dip stick? Does it measure full?
Yeah the level looked fine on the dip stick.
I will check it again tomorrow.
I guess maybe what confused me before, why this engine eats oil period?
I had many other Japaneses and European cars and never had or heard of low engine oil.
So if I do oil changes every 5K miles, I will still always get this low engine oil light?
A bit strange I would say, but I guess that is the way this car is designed.
Thanks again guys for your help.

Hello,
Me again, just wanted ask you couple questions.
So if Audi says 1qt per 1000miles is ok, then you the car will eat 5qts before you have to make an oil change, correct?
I am a bit confused how can this be normal?
You will have 5qts less in the engine before your next oil change?
So I assume everyone with this car gets this low engine oil light every so many miles before each oil change?
Thanks for your help again.

Sounds about right, but you shouldn't let it go down. You should check it and top off between oil
changes.
I have never had a low oil light. And I think many others don't either. I think it's pretty rare to see it.
If you oil use is excessive, I would ask for an oil consumption test though your dealer if you are still under warranty.
