Low engine oil light.
#11
So even if your car is eating 1qt each 1000 miles you are not getting low engine oil light?
Thanks for explanation and sorry for asking so many questions , I just never heard the car eating so much oil. I guess because of V8.
I have extended warranty on the car, so maybe they can do that test. I will also ask them to check sensor for low engine oil.
But what surprising to me, is that if you say it eats 1qt each 1000 mile, so you are saying when you go to do oil change, the car doesn't give you warning for low engine oil with 5qt less in the engine? And that is considered fine by Audi?
Thanks again

You shouldn't wait until the next oil change to check the level and top it off
but I have never had to add more than a quart between changes, and since it doesn't lose oil, I don't get the oil level light.
If your light came on and it only took a half quart to return the level to normal on the dip stick, you should have them check the sensor and I wouldn't be too alarmed at that much oil loss.
IIRC you said you went about 2000 miles and it only used a quart, correct?

Re: You shouldn't wait until the next oil change to check the level and top it off
Hey,
Yeah I went about 2000 miles after last oil change when the low engine oil light came on. I added only half a quart at that time just to see how much oil is actually needed to be added for light to go away.
I drove another 1K-1.5K miles after that and it came on again.
I added second half of quart. It went away again now. My oil change is due in 500 miles.
As you mentioned above you said that: "I have never had to add more than a quart between changes, and since it doesn't lose oil, I don't get the oil level light."
So what it seems to me that you are adding around 1 quart of oil between oil changes and you are not getting the engine oil light, correct?
If that is the case I guess my car is doing the same.
I guess what I was thinking you were saying that you do not add any oil and you are not getting low engine oil light.
But what did you mean by "since it doesn't lose oil"? If it didn't lose oil how come we need to add a quart between oil changes
Sorry for many questions, I just do not want to have dealer check into something, if that was confirmed as normal for this car.
Thanks again.
Daniel

Sorry, I meant. Doesn't lose that much oil to cause the light to come on
sounds like your low oil indicator is not calibrated correctly or broken.
If you are only adding 1qt between 5K changes. That's normal and completely acceptable.
If you're under warranty, I'd push the dealer to fix the low oil indicator. It would annoy me personally
