Low oil problem... Getting annoying.

Seems whenever I got on a long trip I get an "oil low" indicator going off.
This time it was only 1200kms after getting an oil change. I had to top up the oil 6 times during the trip! I was pulling over every few hours putting oil in the car. Even had to go shopping for more oil mid-trip (in the middle of nowhere, might I add)!
Question: Is this normal? I asked this before and was told that these cars burn through a certain amount of oil per kms... but having to top it up 6 times in 1 round-trip is a bit excessive!! I have never heard of anybody having to do this with their cars, but for me it is a routine thing.
Note: Each time the warning went off I had been driving for a couple of hours. I didn't want to put in *too much* oil each time, because I was afraid that the oil had been distributed throughout the engine and once I stopped the car and let it sit the oil would all come down and collect in the pan, at which time I'd have too much oil in the car (which the car's manual says is very very bad for the engine). Hence the fill-up 6 times...
Question 2: Next time should I just put in a full quart of oil and not worry about over-filling it? I figured at 1200 kms (720 mi) after an oil change was too soon for a full quart.

Use the dip stick to fill to the correct amount. BTW 6qts in a 2400km round trip is not normal.

Thus they won't do anything about it.
I can't say I know that's AoA's current status, but many other manufacturers have taken similar stances.

I was driving from Cincinnati to Chicago this past weekend. About 300 each way. Light first came on about 100 miles into trip. Might I add less than 400 miles since my $5k engine out reseal maintenance. I put in 0.5 quart within a few miles of it coming on. About 70 miles later, came on again. Put in 0.25 quart, never came on again, even on the way back. Really freaked me out especially since the entire engine was just torn down a few hundred miles before it happened. Very strange.
