I totally agree with your observations. I am a big BMW fan and I was somewhat dissappointed with the new M3. It was heavy, with a high-reving inline 6 that just seemed to be working too hard. I personally like the exterior of the M3 more than the S4 but OVERALL, the S4 won me over with it's understated good looks, wonderful interior, Quattro, 4-doors and smoother/torquier engine and everyday drivability. For the Sportscar enthusiast living in a area with significant snow fall, the S4 is the car to own-IMHO!

I'm tired of the M3 is better then the S4 posts. For what purpose do they serve? I'm not going over to the A4 board and knocking everybody because they are missing 4 cylinders. Damn that ticks me off.

Is anyone else tired of the S4/M3 comparisons?
They're different cars. Some people will like one over the other. If I lived somewhere with milder winters than Michigan, I might have seriously considered the M3.
No one wins these constant comparisons. I wish I could filter them out of my viewing of this forum.
