Default M3 over S4

Who here would get a M3 over an S4 and why? I think styling is 50% of what a car is all about and the S4 is about a boring as they come. The M3 is one of the meanist looking cars on the road.

This is like the 10th time we have had that question posed.

Really? And one of the reasons I bought my '02 M3 was because I thought it was a stealth car. I don't want to burst your bubble but if you took off the badges, 99.9% of the drivers on the road wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 330 and an M3. Granted a car enthusiast can spot the difference in a heartbeat, but the M3 is not that radical in my opinion. My definition of a mean looking car is a Porsche 911 Turbo.

Having said that I must admit that BMW did a much better job differentiating the M3 from the basic 3 series than Audi did with the S4 versus the A4. The S4 is truly a stealth car.

The only problem I have with the S4 is that dam fin on the roof which all Audis and BMWs will have in '04. Man, it's going to take me some time to get use to it. Otherwise I believe that the S4 is a beautifully designed car.

Well is the M3 superior to an S4? We might just as well ask is a blonde superior to a brunet. Why don't we just say that both cars are great in their own way, and a car buyer won't go wrong buying either.

Default You should get the M3.

You obviously like it better and have been on the fence for a while. Unless you are going to face serious snow in the car, why would you buy a car that by your own admission is already a 50% loser. The M3 is great (I owned one). Buy it and enjoy it.

Default If I were to make the choice it would be because:

1. I want a coupe
2. I want a lighter car.
3. I like the handling better.

But none of these reasons are right now enough to change why I want the S4:

1. I want a V8
2. I like AWD
3. I like the interior of the Audi
4. I like choice of XM or Sirius
5. The S4 is a better daily driver.

Why? And if you feel that way, why are you here?
