Matching Steering Angle Sensor Part Numbers
Hello everyone!* I have a confirmed bad Steering angle sensor in my '05 S4.* The car is basically stock with no tricks or tinkerings.* It is a $500 retail part and I can't justify that so I'm looking for a junk yard version.* I have a VAG-com cable and can do the recode but my question pertains to the various part numbers.
Based on my VIN (WAUPL68E45A048***) the dealer says I need 4E0 953-541 B.* Researching around the interweb suggests a few things that may be misunderstandings on my part - thus the reason for my questions to confirm:
4E0 953-541 B is similar to 4E0 953-541 A and 'A' has superseded 'B' so they are interchangeable.**
4E0 953-541 B is used on several Audi models including 2002-2008 A4/S4, 2005-2011 A6, 2003-2010 A8, 2007 to present Q7 and 2006-2009 RS4.* It is not used on any VW models.
Most searches for SAS questions that start with "00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85) 37-00 - Faulty" lead to part number 1J0-959-654-AG which is used on dozens of VW cars since 1999 - pretty much any VW that has stability control.* There are also a few Audi models listed including the 1999-2002 S4, A6 through 2004, Allroad through 2005 and TT through 2006.
My question before I start calling around is do I need 4E0 953-541 B/A or will 1J0-959-654-AG work.* It will be a lot easier to find a 12 year old Jetta in a junk yard than a 6 year old Audi.* Most of the searches on 4E0 953-541 B lead to discussion about guys converting earlier cars to MFSW and all I'm trying to do is make my stability control work again for less than $500.* Thanks for any help the community can provide!
