Was leaving my apartment complex. Hit the street, got into second gear, and immediately the car starts running super rough and sounds horrible. I limp it back to my garage and VAG-COM it. The codes are below:

5 Faults Found:

16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
16692 - Cylinder 8: Misfire Detected
P0308 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
16690 - Cylinder 6: Misfire Detected
P0306 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON
16691 - Cylinder 7: Misfire Detected
P0307 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
16689 - Cylinder 5: Misfire Detected
P0305 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

Readiness: 0000 0000

So, we're looking at the entire driver's side bank all of a sudden starting to misfire simultaneously. Anyone have this happen to them before? Any ideas where I can look?

I had misfires and it turned out to be coilpacks starting to go or already kaput. It was a relatively easy/fast warranty repair. My only regret was that I didn't take that opportunity to also swap out the plugs ( all of them) at the same time. I got fresh plugs put in about a year later and definitely noticed a difference...plus, if you shop around you can find the NGK or Bosch plugs fairly cheap.

Yup....Coil packs. Always carry spares!
